COVID-19 bites the 2020 Land Castle Summer Extravaganza after all, but the main event still goes on! Remaining camping space is limited...
48 days after the exciting news was announced that Twin Cities music superstar and KFAN morning radio personality Chris Hawkey would be performing at the 2020 Land Castle Summer Extravaganza, the annual ice fish house enthusiast event released an updating statement that may disappoint music fans during a summer that most would rather forget.
"Land Castle 2020 at this moment in time is happening, but the show with Chris will have to wait. After hours of discussion, many emails and phones calls, conversations with local officials, and a lot of consideration, it has been mutually agreed between the Land Castle Summer Extravaganza and the Chris Hawkey Band to POSTPONE this year's performance until our 5th Anniversary - Land Castle 2021." wrote Land Castle's Event Director, Brandon Gatz.
"With all of the restrictions on outdoor events coming from state and local officials, both sides agreed that moving forward with the 2020 performance would not be up to anybody's standards for how a Chris Hawkey Band concert should go. Chris puts on an impressive, high-energy show that engages the crowd before him and with the capacity restrictions, crowd control rules, and the risk of civil charges for disobeying state guidelines it's just not an ideal situation. We have a good event in Land Castle and want to see it grow for years to come. While there is some disappointment from me on how outdoor events are classified with COVID restrictions and available space, we have to follow the guidelines or we put future events in jeopardy. We have the space for a lot of people, more than 100 acres at our disposal, but waiting until next year will be the best for everyone involved, including our attending guests."
Tickets for the Chris Hawkey Band performance, sold separately from the Land Castle Summer Extravaganza 2020 event, can be honored at Land Castle 2020 for admission into this year's event with an advanced request, along with the 2021 performance by Chris Hawkey. All sponsors for the 2020 event will be recognized before and during the 2021 event in a major marketing push to build the 2021 event into what organizers hope can be a record breaking 5th Anniversary event. Details for the 5th Annual Land Castle Summer Extravaganza will be released on September 12th at Land Castle 2020.
"We want to be fair and let people know this decision hurts, but it is for the best. We want to demonstrate that we have the best interests in mind of our hosting community in the City of Winsted, our Land Castle guests, our vendors, sponsors, and our entertaining groups. With the current restriction of 250 people being allowed into outdoor events, both sides agreed that good things come to those who wait. By postponing Chris' performance to our 5th event in 2021, it will give us an entire year to really plan something special. We have averaged about 250 people at the previous two events so we will move forward with how we did things in previous years, just spacing people out more." according to Gatz.
Tickets purchased for the Chris Hawkey performance can be honored for this year's event as a Saturday day-pass with a request email sent to Land Castle volunteers. Anyone who wishes to take advantage of this offer should email the Land Castle team at the address listed below. This will allow Land Castle volunteers track how many people are on the grounds at all times to ensure compliance with guidelines.
The requested tickets will be sent out at the end of this month with the other camping package tickets sold for the 2020 event. In 2021, Chris Hawkey ticket buyers will get another ticket in the mail, also at the end of August, for the 2021 performance and for admission into the 2021 Land Castle Summer Extravaganza.
When asked about his thoughts on this new development for Land Castle 2020, Gatz said,
"2020 has been a year to forget. It's a major disappointment that we can't celebrate year four of Land Castle with Chris, but might as well spend year five with him and really have a great time. This concert isn't the first to fall from the COVID, but we feel confident still holding the main event. We appreciate the support that we have received over the last four years from our community and our guests that come to enjoy the best ice fishing event of the summer. Now we pray the good Lord provides us with great September weather for this year's event."
"We are working on a second event for later this year as well", hinted Gatz. "I am working on adding a smaller event for our local guests to enjoy right before we all spread out and start ice fishing for the season. Watch our pages and we will send update emails out as well for those who are on our private mail list."
The Land Castle event is promoted on the ice all winter long as well.
